Description
La Specola's collection of Coelenterata consists largely of corals. An important part of the historical collection is that of Placide Duchassaing and Giovanni Michelotti, comprising material from the Caribbean region collected around 1860. Originally consisting of 409 species of Cnidaria, it was published by the collectors in two monographs in 1860 and 1864, with the description of 208 new species. The rest of the collection comes from expeditions of the Department of Biology, GRSTS and others.
