Description
Collection derived from Department of Biology expeditions, GRSTS and others. Particularly interesting are those collected in collaboration with the GRSTS in Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and Antartic in late 1973/early 1974. Among 200 collected and identified specimens, the Genoese researcher Michele Sarà recognized 45 species, of which 30 new to science. This collection also contains some very large and particularly beautiful sponges called Neptune's cup (Poterion neptuni), which form the coral reefs along with madrepores.
