Description
The CNR-IBE-ACOGER collection includes 29 olive autochthonous genotypes of Emilia Romagna (Northern Italy) maintained at the IBE-CNR Conservation Centre, Multiplication Centre and olive plant nursery according to European and national (QVI) rules. The collection aims are: (1) safeguard, identification and selection of autochthonous olive genetic resources of Emilia Romagna region; (2) registration of selected genotypes in the Regional Volunteer Repertoire of Agricultural Genetic Resources; (3) registration of selected genotypes on National Inventory of Pre-base material; (4) propagation and commercialization of selected genotypes according to genetic and sanitary certified EU rules; (5) reintroduction of autochthonous genotypes in olive orchards with higher agronomic features and improved quality of oils; (6) valorization of Northern Italy EVOOs biodiversity; (7) selection of oils characterized by valuable and peculiar aromas that can differentiate them from the oils currently available on the market; (8) selection of oils with high nutritional properties (high content in phenols, vitamins, and oleic acid), stressing their importance in the prevention of degenerative and cardio-vascular diseases.
